Another advantage of having a written contract is you can include language in there that will allow you to recover your attorney fees should you prevail in a lawsuit.
Otherwise, you would not be entitled to do debt recovery that cost unless there’s some other statute that allows for that, but by and large, you have to have that as a provision in your written contract in order to collect. Of course, your written contract can also warn somebody that you are entitled to costs and interest on any amount that they owe you.
